I have a 1999 volvo s80 2.9 with low pressure the valve lifters have a noise
You have been using the WRONG engine oil. If you read your owner’s manual, you will see that Volvo and other Euro-based cars require oil that meets certain specifications. Regular dino oil will rot things inside the engine and cause leaks and other problems. It will clog lifters and ruin turbo-chargers, prematurely. You also have an oil pressure regulator that adjusts oil pressure based on engine temperature. It can clog up as well. Also, Volvo engines have an oil separator, which is a part of the Crankcase Ventilation system. Regular oil will clog this thing up. It requires replacing anyways after so many miles. It is located on the side of the engine block underneath the intake manifold. It is almost like another oil filter. It collects oil vapors and debris such as coke and stores it. I once replaced this “oil trap” on a Volvo sedan that was so gunked up, it stored almost a full pound of sludged oil. The engine just could NOT breath correctly. Your source of action is as follows. Replace the “oil trap” and all hoses connected to it. The Volvo dealer in the Detroit area has a whole kit for this job. You can do it yourself with hand tools and a little bit of elbow grease. Locate an Amsoil dealership, and buy their crankcase cleaner. Use it to remove all built up carbon and sludge in your crankcase, rings, and other engine vitals. Swear off quicky lube oils, and stick to Mobil One, or ELF oil. Make CERTAIN that the statement, “approved for use in Volvos” appears somewhere on the oil container. The proper oil only requires changing once a year ONLY. If you were in the Detroit area, i would be happy to do this job for you, or show you how to do it properly yourself. LEARN from this, and stop using cheap oil that makes trouble on down the road. ELF and Mobil One will NOT make sludge, and clean things out as you drive. Mobil 0W-40 would be an excellent choice. Stay away from the big “V”. Good luck!! READ YOUR OWNER’S manual fluid specifications section!!
