Is a second hand crib safe for a new born? Even if the mattress can’t be removed?

I’ve been a second hand crib I really like but I’m not sure if it is safe. It is solid wood but the mattress by whoever owed it has been glued into place so I can’t remove it without damaging the crib. I really like it but I’m not sure it is safe.

Safety factors for cribs are:

How far apart is are the bars? If they are more than 2 3/8″ apart is not safe.

A mattress that fits the crib so there are no gaps between the crib bars and the mattress where the baby can roll and get stuck.

The mattress should be in good condition, meaning not so used that there is low spots. It should be firm.

I would seek someone in the furniture business to see if it is possible to get the mattress unglued without damaging the mattress or the crib. You might also be able to order just the bottom board and a new mattress. I cannot understand why a person would actually glue the mattress to the bottom of the crib unless it didn’t fit properly.

Regardless of new or used, always clean your mattress. Dreft has a great spray. And use a zip on covering that fully encases the mattress so that it won’t loosen and hurt your baby. Realize that items imported from over seas are sprayed with formaldehyde as it kills bugs that would attach themselves. This applies to clothing as well, which is why it is recommended to wash everything before wearing (even for adults).
