Britain’s popular TV chefs
Most people have a favoured tv chef, whether for their dishes or their passion for cooking. These are some of the chefs who have graced our tv, and the nation has taken them to their hearts.
- Gordon Ramsay. Appearing on Hells kitchen, the Scot has a fiery temper, and the only filthy thing in his kitchen is his mouth. Ramsay is one of three chefs in Britain to hold three Michelin stars for his restuarants at any one point. Ramsay originally appeared on a documentary called boiling point, where he first became known to the public. Boiling point saw Gordon trying to achieve his 3rd Michelin star, and made him an overnight celebrity. Other shows hes appeared in are Ramsays kitchen nightmares, the F word and hells kitchen. ‘Hells kitchen’ and ‘kitchen nightmares’ have also been re-made over in America, where even they arent safe from the abuse.
- Nigella Lawson. Child of former Conserative Nigel Lawson and author of the well recieved ‘how to eat’, Nigella’s tv debut came in 2000 with the show ‘Nigella bites’. The TV show won her TV Broadcast of the Year at the Guild of Food Writers Awards. Lawson’s approach to cuisine has won her many fans in America and over here. Her daytime tv chat show ‘Nigella’, was cancelled after a week on air, to which she admits that she didnt enjoy being a chat show host. Just as good on paper, having sold well over a total of 3 million books, she is just a good with a pen as well as in front of a camera.
- Jamie Oliver. The ‘Naked chef’ was working as a ‘sous chef’ in Fulham by the BBC. The naked chef ran from 1998-99 and was followed by ‘Pukka Tukka’ and ‘Jamie’s kitchen’. Airing in 2005 ‘Jamie’s school dinner was Oliver’s personal crusade to get increased standards for childrens school dinners, which ended with the government pledging to spent £280 million on school dinners for the next three years. Being the ‘mascot’ of Sainsburys has done well for him to, raking him in over £1.2 million a year. Adored by Britain for being just that- British: in his dishes and mannerisms, it might be the reason he hasnt seemed to have done as well overseas- though to his credit im not sure he cares.
